Rachel Haos
chief operating officer
While Rachel grew up in Milwaukee, she is a first-generation American whose father’s family spans four generations born on different continents due to forced migration. She earned her bachelor’s degree in French and International studies with a minor in German, and spent a semester studying in Caen, France. She has a master’s degree in Cultural Foundations of Education from University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and a graduate certificate in Dispute Resolution from Marquette University. Rachel is currently completing her PhD in Urban Education at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.
Professionally, Rachel has spent the last two decades working in higher education in roles that encompassed everything from admissions and residence life to Title IX, study abroad programs, and serving international students. One of the most rewarding and challenging parts of her work has been working with international students and the visa regulations.
Community is important to Rachel. She currently volunteers at the Milwaukee Justice Center as a Parenting Conference facilitator and spent many years at Literacy Services of Wisconsin as an Adult Basic Education and ESL tutor. Rachel has volunteered for supervised visitation with St. Rose Youth and Family Center/Lad Lake, and also recently spent four years as an elected member of her condo board.
Rachel considers herself a lifelong learner and in her free time enjoys traveling and learning about other countries and cultures. She has taken many courses through the Milwaukee Recreation program in subjects spanning languages, yoga, stained glass making, and knot tying.
