Elaine Cholakova
Legal Assistant
Elaine is a first-generation American of mixed Mexican/Bulgarian descent, who knows what it’s like to struggle with feelings of not belonging due to her cultural identity. Her early life was marked by witnessing deportations and family separations, motivating her to participate in protests for immigration reform during high school. Finding solace in connecting with fellow immigrants and first-generation youth, Elaine channeled her experiences into art, using it as a form of personal healing and expression.
Her dedication to art led her to enhance her skills in photography and graphic design, leveraging them in previous jobs at family-owned businesses. Despite her resilience, Elaine faced health challenges from neglecting work-life balance early on but has since focused on health education to support her community.
Now part of the SIL team, Elaine aims to overcome her immigration-related traumas and provide essential resources to others in need. She is beyond grateful to have the chance to join a team that is dedicated to helping others in need and setting a great example of the beauty that comes with unity.
In her spare time, when not catching up on sleep, you can find Elaine engrossed in a game of chess, spending time at the library, exploring the outdoors, or likely pursuing additional work opportunities.
