COVID-19 vaccination requirements extended at U.S. borders

On April 21, 2022, the DHS extended vaccination requirements regarding COVID-19 for all non-U.S. travelers entering the U.S. via land borders or at ferry terminals. This affects entrants at both the Canada and Mexico borders.

While COVID-19 testing is not required, entrants must be prepared to:

  • verbally attest to their COVID-19 vaccination status;

  • provide, upon request, proof of a CDC-approved COVID-19 vaccination;

  • present a valid Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative-compliant document, such as a valid passport, Trusted Traveler Program card, or Enhanced Tribal Card;

  • be prepared to present any other relevant documents requested by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer during a border inspection.

To help reduce wait times and long lines, travelers arriving or departing from air, land, or sea ports of entry are encouraged to use the Simplified Arrival (https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/assets/documents/2018-Aug/Simplified_Arrival_Fact_Sheet.pdf) or Mobile Passport Control (https://www.cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/mobile-passport-control) mobile applications, which use facial comparison technology for more expedient processing. Documented non-citizens may also apply for and manage their I-94s through the CBP OneTM (https://www.cbp.gov/about/mobile-apps-directory/cbpone) mobile application, a single portal for accessing CBP mobile applications and services
